Twitter Shuts Down Niger Delta Avengers Militant Group Account

Am sure the group called NDA needs no introduction from us, as we all know that they are responsible for the damages down to the country oil sector by destroying oil installation.
Well Twitter took down their official Twitter account of the (@NDAvengers) – Niger Delta Avengers militant group based in Nigeria, they seems to have move to Facebook as their new means of social networking,
The Twitter account of Niger Delta’s militant group @NDavengers which has accumulated over 32,000 followers was deactivated by Twitter. The account suspension, which is part of twitter’s move to combat violent extremism was effected after the group reported that it had carried out five attacks on oil assets in two days.

However, shortly after the suspension,  the spokesperson for the Avengers, Mudoch Agbinibo released a statement on Facebook that confirmed the suspension. In his words:

” Notice! This is to bring to your notice that our twitter handle @www.twitter.com/@ndavengers has been suspended and our blog @www.nigerdeltaavengers disabled”  We use this medium to appeal to our fans and supporter to be very careful with any website or twitter claiming to represent us. We shall launch new accounts soon! We must continue the struggle!!!

The reason for this action by twitter may not be unconnected with the series of attacks carried out by this militant group and the fact that the group has been using the account to promote its radical anti-government.

A spokesman for Twitter when asked about the reasons for suspending the account commented:

” This account has been suspended, we do not comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons.

He also added that the company’s policies included a “specific rule pertaining to violent threats”, which states that “you may not make threats of violence or promote violence, including threatening or promoting terrorism”.
