We are excited to announce that, coinciding with WhatsApp’s 8th birthday on February 24, we are reinventing the status feature. Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.

The company went further to give a brief insight on how whatsapp status update works and the motive behind the release, in their words : ‘Just like eight years ago when we first started WhatsApp, this new and improved status feature will let you keep your friends who use WhatsApp easily updated in a fun and simple way’
If you have been following the social giants angle, you would remember sometimes last year, Instagram rolled out similar update, and of course it has long been expected, considering its parent company Facebook owns both Whatsapp and Instagram
You might be wondering what the new update is all about, well all it does is to spice up the usual way things has always been done, by allowing you share photos, videos, and GIFs as your status (i.e. stories) and will automatically disappear after 24 hours
The Whatsapp Status is similar to what we have on Snaphat and Instagram stories which disappear after 24hrs. with this users will be able to share real moments with their contacts as well as status updates. Like in Snapchat, only those in your contact will get to see your updates shared
