In another attempt by telecom companies in Nigeria to Block WhatsApp, Skype, IMO and Others OTT Service, Telecommunications companies in the country has urged NCC to find a solution to their lost
You’d recalled Telecoms companies had sometimes last year threaten to block call featured social messenger apps like Whatsapp, Skype, Facebook, Wechat, Viber and IMO mainly because of their huge revenue losses from international calls with future losses pegged between N20tn and N30tn, or so, by the end of 2018”
This among several other reasons is believed to be an appeal forwarded to NCC to allow them block subscribers from using Skype and other Over-the-Top services like Facebook and WhatsApp
According to guardian, They lamented yet again, urging Nigeria Communication Commission NCC to proffer a solution to their plight,… OTT operations have created a global revenue loss of $386 billion for the telecoms operators from 2012 to 2018, adding that they were also endangering their network development..
That said, they also claim OTT platform uses there traditional Mobile Network Operator (MNO) infrastructure to get massive advertising revenues resulting to their lost, and therefore appeal NCC to do something either by blocking or placing some sort of restriction
Well. this move is dead on arrival if you ask me, after all, subscribers pay through their nose to purchase data plan, and as such, i want to believe we should be entitled to how we use it up
You don’t expect people to pay heavily for international calls when they can easily just subscribe for data and place the call through via WhatsApp, IMO or Skype? Why are they complaining? urging NCC to block this service is just not fair to customers..
Nigerians’ telcos are just being unserious. Don’t we pay for the data used in running Whatsapp and the other apps?
bro i wonder too oo…
